Strengthening Disaster Recovery
with Cross-Region Replication
About The Customer

Jindal Steel and Power Limited (JSPL) is an Indian steel and energy company with its headquarters located in New Delhi, India. Founded by Mr. Naveen Jindal in 1979, JSPL has grown to become one of India's leading integrated steel manufacturers and energy producers. The company operates across various sectors, including steel, power generation, mining, and infrastructure.

Why JSPL Considered a Robust Disaster Recovery (DR) Strategy

JSPL's workloads are critical to the organization's operations and success. Insphere recommended a robust Disaster Recovery (DR) strategy following industry best practices and AWS guidelines. A DR strategy safeguards against disruptions affecting data availability, application functionality, and business continuity, including hardware failures, data corruption, natural disasters, and region-wide outages. JSPL implemented a DR solution for Amazon RDS, S3 media & static buckets, and Load Balancer.

Total Transformation Management

Addressing these challenges with a well-designed DR solution helps JSPL ensure data availability, meet compliance requirements, and maintain business continuity, even in unexpected disasters or disruptions.

JSPL's web application production server operates in Mumbai AWS region. Insphere implemented cross-region replication in North Virginia, creating read replicas for Amazon RDS, Load Balancer, and S3 media & static buckets.

Amazon RDS Read Replica:
  • Read replica of primary RDS database established in secondary region.
  • Synchronized copy enabling real-time data replication between regions.
  • Ensures data availability even if primary region becomes inaccessible.
S3 Media Bucket Replication:
  • Configured for cross-region replication.
  • Objects in primary bucket automatically replicated to secondary region.
  • Ensures redundancy and durability of media files.
  • Media retrieval possible from secondary region in case of failure.

By implementing RDS read replicas and S3 cross-region replication, Insphere established a comprehensive DR mechanism ensuring data redundancy, rapid recovery, and high availability for JSPL.

Outcome:

By implementing the Disaster Recovery (DR) strategy, JSPL has achieved improvements in several areas:

Data Redundancy:

  • Data stored across multi-regions, ensuring accessibility even during regional failures.

Data Availability:

  • Cross-region replication increased availability by 4.99%, ensuring minimal downtime.

RPO & RTO:

  • DR strategy reduced RPO and RTO by 85%, allowing rapid recovery and minimizing downtime.

These improvements ensure JSPL can handle disruptions, maintain continuous operations, and deliver reliable service to stakeholders.
