Challenges
Portal generates a significant amount of data every year including Candidate records (Every year around 1 Lakh candidates apply), administrative information, and more. Managing and storing this data securely and efficiently on-premise was a challenge. They have experienced hardware failure, data center outage in their past because of that candidate troubled many times filing the same form again and again & this led to significant loss in data integrity and sometime time complete data loss. If this challenge was not addressed that time will impact its User Trust & Reliability.
Client workloads rely on vast datasets within Amazon RDS. The challenge was to create a robust backup strategy that ensured data integrity and met compliance requirements. Moreover, this strategy needed to be executed during a window when no updates were occurring, minimizing any potential disruption.

Implementation Details
Client agreed for the "Lift and Shift" hence keeping in mind the criticality of the application, we "Lift and shift" the WEB application and database on two different machines. We create a life cycle policy for RDS and set the automatic backup retention period. Other than that, we configured services like CloudWatch & CloudTrial to monitor the CPU & RAM utilization of the machine.
To take the RDS backup our solutions leveraged the following components: EventBridge, Lambda Function, EC2 Instances & S3 bucket. The implementation of this backup solution yields several key benefits: Long-Term Data Retention (Six months), Data Integrity, Minimal Disruptions, Compliance.
